My top songs of 2011

I thought as I quite recently did a ‘Worst songs of 2011’ post, I should do one to counter it. Trying to think of songs that were released this year was a mission in itself, but I got there eventually. So in no particular order (apart from one), here is my list, and no you won’t find any Adele in here.

Woodkid – Iron. After choosing this list, I realised that this simply is my favourite song of 2011. It’s phenomenal. So here it is, Iron.

———————————————————-

Bjork – Mutual Core. Best song from Biophilia easily, I want to play this song in the middle of a giant open space and play extremely loud. The chorus is the sickest thing she’s ever done, EVER.

———————————————————-

Jamie Woon – Spirits. I had this song on repeat for weeks when this album was released, fantastic album too.

———————————————————-

Foster The People – Helena Beat. My favourite song from one of my favourite albums this year.

———————————————————-

The Staves – Mexico. This is sublime, too good to be true. They were the support act for James Vincent McMorrow and they were just beyond incredible.

———————————————————-

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (Feat. Kimbra). This dude has an amazing voice, and this songs actually means quite a bit to me.

———————————————————-

Lady Gaga – Bloody Mary and Heavy Metal Lover. The darkest but coolest songs on her newest album, I ****ing love Bloody Mary. Love it. Heavy Metal Lover’s bass and beats are so meaty bad-ass.

———————————————————-

Hecq – Sura. This was actually brought to my attention through a Video Game commercial along with another song in this list. An intense, moody and lengthy dubstep track.

———————————————————-

Florence + The Machine – Shake It Out. I wasn’t a big fan of Florence + The Machine before I listened to Ceremonials, but alas I am now converted, and this song is brilliant. Really not a fan of the video though.

———————————————————-

Friendly Fires – Live Those Days Tonight. Love the band, love this song.

———————————————————-

Lights – Siberia. My favourite new artist of the year, again one of my favourite albums this year, was hard to pick a definite favourite track from the album, nearly went with Fourth Dimension, but this wins.

———————————————————-

The Tings Tings – Silence (Bag Raiders Remix). The Ting Tings are back, but they’ve gone a little bit under the radar it seems. It’s simple, catchy and I love it.

———————————————————-

Drake – Crew Love (feat. The Weeknd). This dude is so on it right now, he’s a clever lyricist and a great rapper/singer. I don’t know why but this is my favourite track from ‘Take Care’.

———————————————————-

The Weeknd – The Knowing. Watch out for this guy, seriously, he’s gonna be big.

———————————————————-

James Morrison – I Won’t Let You Go. Beautiful stuff.

———————————————————-

WARNING! — GUILTY PLEASURE SECTION —

Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor (Ft. Pitbull). I shouldn’t like this, but I do.

———————————————————-

Nicola Roberts – Beat Of My Drum. L! O! V E! Such a funky, catchy number. Simple and cheesy.

———————————————————-

Rihanna – Where Have You Been. This has such a mega dope chorus, the beat and the dirty synth is so freakin good.

———————————————————-

Marina & The Diamonds – Radioactive. Not the biggest fan of Marina & The Diamonds but this is darn good.
